During the lean years in baseball, while most star players were serving in the armed forces, players like George Myatt were able to hone their skills in the major league. Presented is George Myatt’s 1945 Uniform Player’s Contract signed by the Washington Senator’s owner Clark Griffith. Myatt did not sign the standard player contact but he did play in 1945 for the Senators posting some of his best career numbers, hitting .296 in 490 at-bats with 30 stolen bases. The steel tip black ink signature of Clark Griffith (d.1955, “8”) is the marquee draw to the artifact. Accompanying the signed contract is an original 6x9-inch 1969 news service photograph of Myatt as the Philadelphia Phillies manager. The contract has been authenticated and certified by JSA (LOA #B26001).
