Thirty-one homers, 145 RBIs and a .327 batting average are not common for a major league rookie; however, this is precisely what the legendary Ted Williams did in 1939, his first year in the bigs. By the mid 1930s Arthur Griffin was the exclusive photographer for the Boston Globe Rotogravure Magazine and frequently photographed for Time, Life and The Saturday Evening Post. Presented is a beautiful 11x14 photograph copyrighted by Arthur Griffin in 1939. Though the photo itself was later reproduced, the image is from 1939, featuring a young Teddy Ballgame beside Arthur Griffin, both sporting the 1839-1939 centennial patches on their shirts. The bottom right corner of the bottom has an Arthur Griffin stamping, marking the image to 1939. Both Ted Williams (d.2002, "8") and Arthur Griffin (d.2000, "9") have boldly signed the photo, with a 1939 inscription from Williams. The photo is neatly framed and matted, featuring a Red Sox sticker on the bottom right and accompanied by a COA from James Spence Authentications. With frame, this piece measures 21 x 17 inches.
