Presented is an 1888 Goodwin's Champions Cigar Box, featuring prominent advertising of sports and Old West figures. Measuring 5-1/4" x 9-3/4" with a depth of 2-3/4", this wooden box is an excellent compliment for the "N" ephemera collector. The bottom of the box reveals a 6" crack from the edge to just beneath the tax seal, minimal colored writing, fraying along the decorative edges and evidence of seal removal. The sides reveal the make of cigar, additional paper fraying and removal, along with a beautiful colored seal spotlighting Gus Hill and boxing champion John L. Sullivan. The cover bears a bold Champions trademark, along with more writing and seal removal, and the top of the athletic colored seal. The inner box is clean, while the cover flip is loose but intact. Highlighted on the inner cover flip is Buck Ewing, Myers, Hanlon, John L. Sullivan, Hill, Slossen, Paulsen and Buffalo Bill Cody. Above the flip there are slight abrasions along with the number "156" inscribed on the upper right corner.
