It is astounding how the New York Yankees have been able to continue their excellence for so long. Despite a short absence from the ranks of the elite in the 1980s, the Yankees have been the most popular team in sports for the past nine decades. Inspired by the Mickey Mantle-led Yankees, Hassenfeld Bros Game Company produced a dice game that pitted the mighty Yanks against the entire league. The game came with fifty 4 x 5-1/2 performance cards, evenly split between the Yankees and stars from the rest of baseball. The offered high grade 1964 Challenge the Yankees complete set is the finest set on the market with (10) PSA graded examples; each remains the highest graded card on the PSA registry. The cards come with a small black and white photograph of the player, a short biography and career statistics through the 1963 season. The graded exemplars include PSA 8: Ford, Maris, Snider, Yastrzemski, McCovey, Aaron; PSA 6: Kaline, Marichal, Bouton; PSA 5: Mantle. Among the ungraded singles are Berra (EX-MT), Mathews (EX-MT), Mazeroski (EX), Santo (EX-MT), and E. Howard (EX-MT). The remainder of the singles are all sharp and clean grading EX to NM. Accompanying this fantastic high grade set are (25) home team performance cards that were issued for the player of the game to create cards for players not issued in the set, making a total of (75) cards in this collection. Simply put, this is the best available complete set for this tough large format issue.
