Offered is a unique Baltimore Orioles collectible in the form of this rare communiqué from team general manager, Hall of Famer Lee MacPhail. This single page letter was written on Orioles stationary and was sent to the Los Angeles Dodgers with a $1,000.00 check. The check was for the purchase of a player the Orioles obtained with Jim Gentile earlier that year. Gentile turn out to be a huge part of the Orioles in the early 1960s, coming in a solid third in the MVP voting in 1961 behind two guys named Maris and Mantle. The signature of MacPhail is in blue ink and grades a (“10”) while the paper displays the mildest of toning and a small area of paper loss at the top. COA from James Spence Authentications.
