This early Baltimore Orioles issue is as scarce as their origin is exclusive. Little is known about these tiny cards but their inclusion in the “big book” may come soon as SCD researcher and editor Bob Lemke published a definitive article in the SCD in January 2006 on the probable origin and checklist for this set. The offered collection of twenty-five 1954-55 Zipcards contains all of the known cards in the series. The skip-numbered set includes two size variations, a 2 x 2-5/8” version and a 2-3/4 x 3-5/8” version. From the 1954 series are (8) small cards and (4) large while the 1955 issue has (8) small and (5) large cards. All of the cards feature black and white images of the Baltimore Orioles’ players from the 1954 and 1955 seasons while each card grades NM to NM-MT with the exception of the 1954 Bill O’Dell (EX). This is the premier series, save the Esskay set, for the diehard Baltimore Orioles collector. Note: This complete set is only the second to surface in recent years with the first selling for nearly $7,000 in our October 2006 auction.
