The year 1960 marked the first winning season for the Birds since they moved to Baltimore in 1954. The team, led by Hall of Famers Brooks Robinson and Hoyt Wilhelm, finished 89-65, second only to the rival Bronx Bombers in the American League. Nonetheless, the exciting brand of baseball played by Richards and the gang drastically increased the interest and support for the Baltimore squad. The offered lot contains two phantom collectibles surrounding the rise of the Orioles and their expected trip to the World Series in 1960. The highlight piece is a seldom seem Orioles 1960 First World Series press pin. The front remains extremely attractive, exhibiting just a touch of paint fading on the crown of the Oriole. The reverse is complete with the stopper and Balfour stamping, displaying only minor scratching on the southwest portion. The ultra-scarce pin measures 1 long and is accompanied by a full Game 3 World Series phantom ticket. The three-paneled ticket displays a touch of corner wear with no obtrusive flaws to be found. Orioles fans familiar with this press pin known that this lot constitutes a once, maybe twice, in a lifetime opportunity.
