The Philadelphia Athletics of the 1940s were only a shadow of the Connie Mack teams from a decade earlier but in 1940 Mack’s prodigal son, Al Simmons, returned to help out the team as much as a 38 year-old man could. Presented is a beautiful 11x14 framed photograph of the Athletics with (30) signatures and two clubhouse (Mack and Lena Blackburne). Among the other signatories are the aforementioned Simmons (d.1956, “9”), Hal Wagner, Dee Miles, Sam Chapman, Wally Moses, Earle Brucker, Chubby Dean, John Babich, Herman Besse, George Caster, Dick Siebert, Benny McCoy, Bud Hanncken, Ed Heusser, Bill Beckman, Al Rubeling, Bill Lillard, Al Branacto, Nells Porter, Dave Keefe and Frankie Hayes. Along with this wonderful autographed photo is a circa 1910 Reach mini model bat with an image of a Philadelphia Athletic (possibly Bender). The bat is uncracked but does exhibit some moderate signs of aging. The photograph is in VG-EX condition with the majority of the signatures grading (“6-7”) while the Simmons is one of the strongest, grading (“9”). The team photo has been professionally framed to the overall dimensions of 17x19” and comes with a COA from James Spence Authentications.
