Description

One of the more interesting stories of the 1919 Black Sox Scandal is the intrigue surrounding George "Buck" Weaver. Despite batting an impressive .324 in the fabled 1919 Fall Classic, he was banned from the game for knowing of the fix, but failing to report it. Although Weaver appealed for reinstatement on multiple occasions, his pleas were for not. Portraying the young White Sox shortstop in happier times is the offered 1916 Ferguson Baker BF2 felt. Released as a premium only in the Roxbury, Massachusetts area, these 6" multi-colored felt pennants with black and white photo comes in a variety of color variations. This particular example features Weaver gracing an orange felt with white overlay printing. The condition-sensitive rectangular photograph reveals one minor crease with a pinpoint dark spot above the caption. The top edge of this triangular piece is lightly frayed. The ("W") in the Weaver reveals a pair of minute dark spots, while the remainder of the felt is free of the pinholes frequently associated with the series. A striking piece for the "Black Sox" student.
